Africa-Press – Angola. A film festival will take place from the 13th to the 31st of March, from 8 am to 6 pm, at the Alliance Française in Luanda, as part of the festivities of the Francophonie Group in Angola (GAF).

In the same context, the Mutu-ya-Kevela school will host the Francophone Literature Fair on Friday (14), where more than 100 works will be presented to the public, in addition to a musical concert by Odeth Cassilva and the Mozangola band from Mozambique.

The information was released on Wednesday, at a press conference, by the French ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert, permanent secretary of the GAF, flanked by the president of the organization, Jean-Marie Somet, ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire.

According to the diplomat, these events will take place until the end of this month with the aim of highlighting the different cultures of the Francophone countries represented in Angola, and include other activities at the French Lycée and the Bureau de Estudos da Língua Francesa em Angola (BELFA).He announced that the Palácio de Ferro will host the “Soirée des saveurs francofones” on the 21st of this month, where each country in the organization will present its cuisine to the guests.

In turn, speaking at the event, the ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire, Jean-Marie Somet, called for greater publicity for activities related to Francophonie in Angola.

He praised Angola’s membership as an observer member of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).

On the same occasion, the vice-president of the GAF, Lukas Gasser, ambassador of Switzerland, highlighted the first edition of the Francophone literature festival in the Angolan capital and the richness of local literature, with some works translated into French.He called for greater participation by Angolan youth in this activity, admitting that the works that will be on display present themes of interest to them.

The GAF, a diplomatic initiative, was created about ten years ago to strengthen the Francophone community in Angola. It has 29 members, which are the embassies of the OIF member countries represented in the country.

The OIF was founded in 1970, in Niamey, Niger, with the aim of promoting the French language and strengthening cooperation between 93 member countries.

The International Day of Francophonie is celebrated every year on March 20.
