Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA (largest opposition party), Adalberto da Costa Júnior, defended on Saturday (15), in Lobito City, that the Angolan State should empower businesspeople, within the limits of competitiveness, so that they can be agents of development.
According to the UNITA leader, who was speaking at a mass political event on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of this party, celebrated on the 13th of this month, the State should not be responsible for the economy, because this situation creates monopolies, causes companies to go bankrupt and does not provide development.
The politician said that the country still faces many challenges, such as creating jobs for young people, combating hunger, improving medical and drug care, including thousands of children still out of the education system by building more schools, rehabbing roads, among others.
In his view, the 50 years of independence should be lived in a positive way and should be debated in the communities.
Adalberto Costa Júnior called for participatory democracy, where citizens demand and change the govt when it fails to comply with the provisions of its mandate.
In this regard, he urged citizens to have their ID ready so they can vote in the 2027 general elections.
“UNITA agents in the districts where they are located must help to identify those who do not yet have an ID and encourage them to process the document so that their citizenship can be recognized”, he said.
On the other hand, he believes that politicians must be loyal and respect the limits of mandates in parties and organizations. “Only in this way will we achieve stability”, he said.
For Adalberto da Costa Júnior, Angola does not yet have a democracy that can serve as an example for many African countries.
Meanwhile, also on the occasion of the date, the Executive Secretariat of the Permanent Committee of the UNITA Political Commission issued a statement, highlighting the trajectory of the UNITA creation.
“UNITA reaffirms its determination to join its efforts with those of Angolan society to institutionalize local authorities as soon as possible (…)”, the document reads.
It congratulates Angolan and all women around the world for another March and encourages them to continue fighting for gender equality.
We stand in solidarity with the victims of cholera that has affected the country in recent months and demand that the Executive take emergency and effective measures to combat this disease that has already claimed the lives of more than 200 people across the country.
