Angola Turns its Attention to Region V Games

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Under-18 women’s football team is turning its attention to its first participation in the Region V Games, in partnership with Cosafa, to be held from 3 to 14 July in Windhoek, Namibia. According to the competition rules, the age limit for female players is 18, meaning that athletes born after 1 January 2007 will be eligible to participate in the event. Angola will begin to fine-tune its strategies at the end of this month, with the aim of competing with the major teams in the Southern African Region and aiming for a good performance. In the same vein, the new coach will be presented to lead the National Under-18 team in the coming years.

The vice-president for women’s football at the Angolan Federation, Irene Gonçalves, explained the reasons why Angola failed to participate in the Cosafa Under-17 Cup, which will take place from the 10th to the 17th of this month in Namibia.

“Angola is not participating in the Cosafa Under-17 because it is already registered for the Region V games, a partnership with COSAFA. The decision was made in light of the Under-20 World Cup in 2026, with the aim of giving these players a routine in case the teams qualify for the World Cup. In other words, the Cosafa Under-20 will move on to the Region 5 Under-18 games,” she said.
