Africa-Press – Angola. The works on the new Burns Hospital under construction in the Kilamba Centrality, which were inspected this Saturday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, are progressing well.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, in statements to the press at the end of the Head of State’s field trip, which also included visits to the renovation and expansion works at the Américo Boavida Hospital and the construction of the Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedalé” Hospital, in the Gamek à Direita area, in the municipality of Samba.
She explained that the social facility will have 248 beds, of which more than 60 will be dedicated solely to burns patients and the rest will be used to complement the services of a general hospital.
She highlighted that the country will have hyperbaric chambers for the first time, equipment that provides more oxygen to the tissues, which will help to complement not only the burns service, but also other pathologies that require this. In this case, there will be three chambers.According to data provided by the contractor, the works, with a budget of US$155,199,627.47, have a completion rate of 55% and are expected to reach 65% completion by the end of June.
According to the source, the infrastructure is expected to be completed by September, with testing and commissioning to begin in October.
During the visit to this project with a total construction area of around 48,000 m2, the Head of State toured the various facilities under construction.
The project, whose construction began in 2022, is divided into three buildings: Main Hospital, Oxygen Production Plant and Auxiliary Building, and is part of the Executive’s commitment to improving the National Health System. This is a project that will bring added value to the population of the Centrality, who until now have no public hospital nearby that can assist them in case of emergency.
The Hospital will be 35.4 m high, with six floors, connected by a service tunnel to the auxiliary building, which houses the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEC) services, as well as an auditorium for 250 people.
On the outside, the project also includes the construction of a car park with capacity for over 400 vehicles.
The infrastructure will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and built with the aim of creating modern facilities capable of providing the best healthcare to the Angolan population.
The President of the Republic’s agenda this Saturday began with a tribute to retired General Alberto Correia Neto, who died on the 11th of this month, during the funeral that took place at the Wake attached to the Army Headquarters. He then noted the rehabilitation and expansion works of the Américo Boavida Hospital, and the construction of the Burn Hospitals in the Kilamba Centrality, as well as the Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedalé” unit, in the Gamek à Direita area, in the municipality of Samba.
