Africa-Press – Angola. The Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) is transforming part of its facilities in Lubango, Angolan southern province of Huíla, into the country’s first railway museum, which is expected to open on 12 September, in the front park of the infrastructure created in 1905.
According to the Chairman of the CFM, António Coelho da Cruz, renovation work is already underway on the space where the museum will be installed, to house exhibitions and emblematic pieces from the company’s history, including preserved historic locomotives and other old equipment.
He emphasized that the new space aims to become an open-air museum, where the history of railway transportation is accessible to everyone.
According to its manager, CFM has a vast historical collection and a robust technical library and to this end, it plans to establish a permanent space for the conservation of its collection, reinforcing its commitment to preserving the national railway memory.
He said that the establishment of this museum represents an important milestone in Angola’s history, especially in a year in which the country will celebrate the 50 years of national independence to be marked on November 11.
