Africa-Press – Angola. Eleven of the 16 members of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) were sworn in this Thursday, in Luanda, during the VII Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 3rd Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly (AN).
The new commissioners were appointed by the National Assembly at the last plenary session, following a proposal from political parties and coalitions with parliamentary seats, in accordance with the principles of majority control and respect for parliamentary minorities.
The following were sworn in: Maria Augusta de Macedo Rodrigues, Manuel Sabonete Camati, Eduardo de Sousa Magalhães, Cremildo José Felix Paca, Miguel Rodrigues Cazevo, Maria de Lourdes Sousa Abrantes Veiga, Gilberto Saldanha Afonso Neto and Felismina Gando Manuel da Silva, proposed by the MPLA.
Adriana Chitula Sapissó (PRS) and Lucinda Roberto Augusto da Costa (FNLA) were also sworn in by the President of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira.
In turn, Commissioner Onilda Patrícia Camoço Quingongo (PHA) did not take office because she is facing a precautionary measure at the Constitutional Court.
The remaining members must be appointed by UNITA.
CNE
The CNE is composed of seventeen members, including a judicial magistrate, who presides over it, coming from any body, chosen on the basis of a curricular competition and appointed by the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
The number of CNE members proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties with parliamentary seats is determined by Resolution of the National Assembly, at the end of the term of office of the members in office, in accordance with the election results, in accordance with the law.
Sixteen citizens appointed by the National Assembly, by an absolute majority of deputies in active service, on the proposal of political parties and coalitions of political parties with parliamentary seats, in accordance with the principles of the majority and respect for parliamentary minorities.
Movement of deputies
Luzia Inglês Van-Dúnem and José do Carmo Manuel were sworn in as deputies of the National Assembly, replacing, respectively, Vicente Pinto da Costa and Emiliana Nhengo.
The two parliamentarians, from the MPLA Parliamentary Group, suspended their mandates due to illness.
The aforementioned Draft Resolution was approved by 169 votes in favor, zero against and no abstentions.
