Africa-Press – Angola. The presidents of Angola, João Lourenço, and Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on Saturday, in Cascais, defended the need to strength the economic and cultural cooperation in the community of Portuguese -speaking countries (CPLP).

The statement came at the closing session of the Eurafrican Forum 2025, held from 25 to 26 this month, under the motto ‘Transform Tomorrow: Build global partnerships to fulfill the 2063 Agenda’.

During the session, entitled “Conversation with the Presidents”, moderate by journalist Joana Petiz, the two Heads of State stressed the role of the organization in promoting the development of the Member States

They highlighted the CPLP as a strategic platform for political and economic concertation, adjusted to the current global geopolitical dynamics.

President João Lourenço stated that CPLP should transform linguistic and historical affinity into practical benefits for citizens by increasing trade and effective cooperation between Member States.

In addressing linguistic diversity between the countries of the community, João Lourenço considered the phenomenon a wealth.

‘The Portuguese spoken in Lisbon or Luanda is the same language, with expressions that reflect the identity of each people. This represents an advantage, not an obstacle,’ he said.

He also stressed the need for a new approach to investment in Africa, centered on the use of his human capital.

According to Angolan President Africa is a young continent, so investing in African youth guarantees qualified cadres at the service of the continent and the world.

For the statesman, investment in formation also represents a structured response to disordered migratory movements. ‘The solution is to create conditions in the countries themselves, where young people meet and resources are available,’ he said.

In turn, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered CPLP a functional and influential organization, despite his relative discretion in international agendas. ‘We have a community with strong political and historical ties. It may not have great visibility, but it shows effectiveness in its actions,’ he said.

Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of reinforcing mobility, political concertation and financial cooperation in the Lusophone space, in the light of current challenges.

The Eurafrican Forum 2025, promoted by the ADF Foundation (Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Foundation), brought together dozens of African and European leaders, entrepreneurs and political decision makers, with the aim of consolidating strategic partnerships and evaluating paths for the materialization of the African Union Agenda 2063.
