Africa-Press – Angola. The opposition UNITA party secretary in the southern Huíla Province, Augusto Samuel, highlighted political stability in this region in the year that is just about to end, especially the absence of significant acts of violence, allowing the party to organize its structures and prepare for the electoral challenges of 2027.
Speaking at the party’s end-of-year compliments ceremony, the deputy stressed that the increase in the number of municipalities, from 14 to 23, required a rapid adaptation of the party’s structures, with the “immediate” appointment of secretaries and the organization of follow-up visits, without any incident.
He emphasized that the political organization promoted methodological meetings and outreach campaigns with the population in municipalities such as Chituto, Chicungo, Capunda Cavilongo and Galangue, all results of the new DPA, where it listened to the needs of the communities and strengthened its presence.
In his speech, the politician highlighted the need for religious and traditional authorities to respect their mission and refrain from interfering in partisan politics, acting neutrally.
For the speaker, these leaders play fundamental roles in guiding, mediating, and fostering cohesion within communities, and should act impartially, without favoring any parties.
The appeal comes in a context where, according to UNITA, there is still “a politicization of some institutions and attempts at political-partisan instrumentalization of local associations and authorities.”
According to the official, the preparatory conferences for the 14th Ordinary Congress of UNITA reinforced the importance of institutional dialogue and the participation of civil society, highlighting the need for neutrality among community leaders.
He pointed out that by 2026, UNITA plans to intensify mobilization efforts and strengthen cooperation with other opposition forces, including members of civil society and representatives from various municipalities, promoting greater political inclusion.
