Africa-Press – Angola. The national senior men’s basketball team are returning to Luanda on Tuesday (05) with three wins from five friendly matches played at the training camp in Madrid, Spain, in preparation for the African Nations Championship in Basketball (AfroBasket 2025), which Angola is to host from the 12th to the 24th of the current month, in the capital (Luanda) and in the south-western Namibe Province.
The Angolan team, coached by Spaniard Josep Clarós, beat a team from the Spanish Basketball League, 80-65 and 106-84, as well as the Chilean Basketball Team, 94-83.
At the end of the training programme, which lasted more than 15 days, the national team lost two training matches to Argentina, 73-79 and 87-93.
In addition to training in Spain, the national team, who are focused on regaining the title lost in 2015, had a general training agenda in Anadia, Portugal, where the group met without having friendly games.
The Angolan national team, champions for the eleventh time, are in Group C.
Their opening match will be against Libya, scheduled for the 12th, at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion in Luanda, before moving on to Namibe, to face Guinea (on the 14th) and South Sudan (on the 16th), at the Welwitschia Mirabilis Pavilion.
In the final selection process in Madrid, Josep Clarós dropped Cleusio Castro, of Petro de Luanda.
However, Gerson Gonçalves, Childe Dundão, Milton Valente, Jilson Bango, Aboubacar Gakou, João Fernandes, Eduardo Francisco, Germane Obama, Bruno Fernando, Kevin Kokila, Macachi Braz, Sílvio Sousa and Selton Miguel, are the selected players.
