Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Angolan Solidarity Support Movement (Movangola), António Sawanga, condemned this Monday in Luanda the acts of vandalism, looting, and disorder that have occurred in recent days in the country.
In statements to the press following an audience granted to him by the Vice President of the National Assembly, Américo Cuononoca, the president emphasized that such acts do not honor Angolans.
He reported that the movement he leads has been carrying out awareness-raising and moralizing activities in society to promote good citizenship and defend social peace.
António Sawanga requested that the National Assembly strengthen laws aimed at severely punishing cases of vandalism, as well as promote dialogue with communities, involving leaders of community associations and public opinion makers.
The leader advocated for the promotion of dialogue and respect for sovereign bodies, as well as the preservation of public assets.
In this regard, he reaffirmed Movangola’s commitment to spreading the message of patriotism, citizenship, and moralization in society, and supporting the Executive’s projects to combat misconduct.
He urged families, religious institutions, and traditional authorities to reinforce the social role of agents of transformation of the human person.
Vandalism of public property and services has caused enormous losses to the State’s coffers.
To curb such practices, the National Assembly approved, last year, increased penalties for vandalism of public property and services, which now extend to 25 years in prison.
To help the Executive combat this problem, MOVANGOLA joined the Executive’s efforts to raise awareness among society to refrain from such practices that hinder the country’s development.
The Movement has carried out the project “Angola, my Land, my Homeland and my Country”, which aims to raise the levels of patriotic citizenship among youth and society in general.
