Africa-Press – Angola. The second provincial commander of the National Police in Icolo and Bengo province, Filipe Cachota, warned the population on Wednesday to pay attention to signs of human trafficking in their communities.
Of the number of trafficked people, he said, 18 are minors between the ages of 1 and 10, and 51 are over 30.
For this reason, he called for the training of police station and command staff, so that senior officers can identify behaviors susceptible to crimes, since human trafficking occurs serially, with other related crimes such as sexual prostitution, pimping, forced labor, money laundering, among others.
The officer considered community policing, ongoing training for service and security forces, and awareness-raising among communities, the elderly, and traditional authorities crucial so they know how to identify a drug trafficker, how they behave, what main techniques they use, and how to prevent them by filing complaints.
He highlighted the main signs of trafficked persons as sexual activity, social isolation or isolation from family, withholding identification or travel documents, and the promise of a better life.
Filipe Cachota acknowledged that there are cultural practices that equally deserve everyone’s attention, such as families who give their minor children to others for the purpose of caring for and raising them, but in reality the opposite happens.
In turn, the Vice-Governor of Icolo e Bengo, Agostinho Pedro AntoĢnio, urged society to distance itself from harmful practices and to strive for healthy social coexistence, the preservation of peace, and the national independence achieved on November 11, 1975.
