Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic and of the African Union, João Lourenço, left Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this Sunday, returning to the country after co-chairing the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, which consolidated cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Held under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in the Pursuit of Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” the summit brought together political leaders, representatives of international organizations, and members of the African diaspora, with the aim of strengthening historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two continents.

During the meeting, work focused on a broad agenda that included issues of peace and security, sustainable development, energy transition, education, youth mobility, health cooperation, and the promotion of Afro-descendant cultural heritage.Participants also discussed mechanisms to strengthen economic cooperation, boost trade and the sustainable exploitation of natural resources, and strengthen ties between Africa and CARICOM in international forums.

The objectives of the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit included defining strategies to consolidate transcontinental partnerships, promote equity and joint development, and create concrete opportunities for the population, especially for the younger generations who aspire to better living conditions.

The results of the meeting indicate that the summit constitutes an important milestone in redefining relations between Africa and the Caribbean countries, paving the way for the implementation of concrete actions that transform the consensus reached into tangible results in the social, economic, and cultural spheres.

The participation of João Lourenço and other African and Caribbean leaders reinforced the commitment of both blocs to consolidate cooperation based on justice, mutual respect, and the promotion of the well-being of the populations.
