Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the southern province of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, on Tuesday highlighted the negative effects of noise pollution on the lives of the citizens of Ondjiva, advocating for the preservation of a healthy environment.

Speaking at the 6th Ordinary Meeting of the Provincial Government, she said that greater attention should be paid to noise pollution, considering its impact on public health, the well-being of the population, and the region’s tourism development.

The provincial governor expressed concern as she receives daily complaints from the public about this problem, caused by some promoters of cultural and recreational events in residential areas.

“We are meeting to find solutions to manage prolonged exposure to noise in the district and to prevent the devastating consequences for mental health and the overall quality of life”, she emphasized.

Gerdina Didalelwa announced that during the meeting they will also analyze the new features introduced by Presidential Decree No. 84/25 of April 16, which approves the regulation on a single window for granting land rights and noise pollution management in the city of Ondjiva.

The meeting’s agenda also includes a presentation on the level of compliance with the annual plan of activities carried out during the first and second quarters of 2025 and the creation of the organizing committee for the November 11th Provincial Event.

The city of Ondjiva, capital of the province of Cunene, currently has 95,628 inhabitants.
