Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, arrived this Saturday morning in the capital of the DR Congo to participate in the Ninth Ordinary Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), during which Angola will pass the presidency of this institution to the host country.
The summit – set to happen in the DR Congo’s National Assembly under the motto “Consolidating peace and security for sustainable development in the Great Lakes region” – will serve for João Lourenço, outgoing Chair of the ICGLR, to formally handover the presidency to President Félix Tshisekedi.
The programme of the event’s opening session includes speeches by the organisation’s executive secretary, the Angolan João Samuel Caholo, by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and by the African Union Commission president, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
