Africa-Press – Angola. The delegate of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in the southern province of Cunene, Esmeralda Mbuta, appealed to members this Tuesday to base their actions on responsible conduct, with a greater commitment to ethics and respect for the legislation in force.
The official made the statement at the ceremony for the awarding of professional licenses (badges) to 11 lawyers and 16 trainee lawyers, on which occasion she stated that the legal profession is an essential institution for the administration of justice, which is why it follows the transformations of society, legislation, jurisprudence and doctrine.
Esmeralda Mbuta recalled that the profession is based on the norms enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic, the Statute of the Bar Association, the Law of Advocacy and the Code of Ethics and Deontology, fundamental instruments for the consolidation of the democratic state and the rule of law.
According to the delegate, these diplomas represent an essential investment for lawyers to act independently, without prejudice to the observance of professional prerogatives.
“The legal profession is a noble profession, and it is up to the class to live up to its prerogatives. To this end, it is necessary for lawyers to adopt a respectable and dignified conduct worthy of the profession they practice,” she stressed.
She added that professionals must remain knowledgeable about the rules that underpin the legal profession, so that they can perform their mission without restrictions, contributing to the effective implementation of judicial protection and access to justice.
The official expressed her expectation that the new members will conform to the statutory precepts of the Order, emphasizing that, as a partner of the State, the OAA focuses on legal aid, prioritizing economically disadvantaged citizens in need of defending their legitimate interests.
She warned that disloyal lawyers are the first to call into question the honor and image of the profession, as well as the credibility of the justice system, which is currently facing challenges to trust.
Esmeralda Mbuta considered that the addition of 11 more lawyers and 16 trainee lawyers reinforces the rigor, quality, oversight, and commitment to the fight for justice in the province.
The Angolan Bar Association has been established in Cunene since 2016 and currently has 102 registered lawyers.
