Africa-Press – Angola. The First Lady of Angola, Ana Dias Lourenço, appealed on Wednesday in Luanda to public and private institutions to support the protection of victims of violence against children and youth as part of their commitment to Angola.
Speaking at the closing of the technical meeting to review the Action Plan of the “We Are All Equal” Campaign, the First Lady said there will be no sustainable development as long as children and adolescents continue to be victims of violence, silence, and impunity.
For the First Lady, child and youth violence is combated with integrated, articulated, and continuous strategies, supported by consistent public policies and cooperation between institutions, requiring continuity, coherence, adequate resources, and the permanent engagement of all.
“A society that educates for equality is a society that prevents violence. A society that protects its children is a society that protects its future,” she said.
Ana Lourenço reiterated her commitment to promoting inclusive policies, more effective and efficient systems for protecting victims of violence, and a culture of respect for dignity and shared responsibility.
The First Lady also stressed that the closing of the “We Are All Equal” campaign, which lasted more than a year, should represent a transition to a new phase of collective responsibility.
Ana Lourenço recalled that the campaign originated from an initiative of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), bringing together public and private institutions, communities and partners in a collective effort to promote gender equality and reduce inequalities across the continent.
“This campaign was born from the conviction that equality is not only a constitutional principle, but a crucial condition for the human, social and ethical development of countries,” the First Lady said.
She highlighted that the initiative has brought important advances in the protection of victims of child and youth violence, by mobilizing strategic sectors of the State, strengthening the articulation between key institutions and promoting dialogue with community and religious leaders.
“This assessment allowed us to recognize the achievements of the implementation of the campaign, We Are All Equal, but also to identify, with more strength and responsibility, the challenges that persist,” she said.
Launched on August 9, 2024, the “We Are All Equal” campaign is an initiative of OAFLAD, aligned with the 5th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which provides, among other factors, for ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls.
