Africa-Press – Angola. Angola won three gold medals on Tuesday at the judo tournament of the African Youth Games, held at the Main Pavilion of the Cidadela sports complex in Luanda.
Of the nine gold medals contested on this first day of competition, Angola won three, in addition to six silver and four bronze medals, thus placing third in the medal table.
In the men’s -50 kg category, Igor dos Santos became champion after defeating Nigerian Iro Abdoul-Madjid in the final and gained the first national gold medal. In the -66 kg category, Emanuel Domingos secured the second gold medal after overcoming Rostand Itoua from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In the women’s sector, Ana Manuel won the third gold medal for Angola in the -44 kg category, defeating Egyptian Salsabi Mahamed in the final.
Regarding the silver medals, Paulo Domingos, in the -60 kg category, won the title after defeating Algerian Eddine Sahaoui in the final, while in the -73 kg category, Viegas Bunga won another silver medal, despite losing the fight to fellow Algerian Oussama Laib.
Also in the women’s events, Juliana Miguel won silver in the -58 kg category after losing to Algerian Dounia Berrahoual, while Calmita Samba also finished in second place, losing the -63 kg final to Egyptian Yasmin Abdelmak.
Bronze medals were obtained by Quelcia Gonçalves in the -4 kg category, after defeating Algerian Nadine Dahoumane, and by Rosiana Alberto in the -48 kg category, who beat Zambian Grace Mubila.
Regarding women’s -70 kg category, the national athlete Ruth Impiopi won bronze medal by defeating Tapomwa Precious of Zimbabwe, while Suzana Álvaro secured the fourth national bronze medal after beating Burundi’s Kevine Dusenge.
The competition features 132 athletes, 65 men and 67 women, representing 30 African countries.
The events continue on Wednesday, at the same venue, with the competition between the teams.

2nd Algeria – 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze
3rd Angola – 3 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze
4th Tunisia – 2 gold, 0 silver and 0 bronze
