Africa-Press – Angola. Icolo and Bengo – The Secretary of State for Military Industry, Afonso Carlos Neto, said, Wednesday, in the town of Catete, province of Icolo and Bengo, that one of the Government’s goals is to make Angola mine-free by 2027.
The official who spoke at the opening of the Board of Directors of the National Demining Center (NDC), stated that the Executive is doing everything, creating the technical and human conditions, so that by 2027, the country will be free of landmines.
“A spirit of mission is necessary, and, in this regard, we must pay greater attention to CND staff to achieve this objective”, he explained.
According to the person responsible, demining operations are of capital importance, aiming at economic development and the free movement of people and goods.
In turn, the vice-governor of Icolo and Bengo, for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Agostinho António, highlighted that the government is willing and available to provide institutional support.
He stressed that holding this event should serve to increase the skills of technicians, taking into account the current situation of demining in the country.
The Board of Directors of the National Demining Center, lasting two days, will include the participation of the heads of provincial Departments and will analyze issues such as “the historical path of the NDC”, “2026/2027 activity plan”, “human resources situation” and “asset financial management”.
The NDC is the public body responsible for coordinating and executing all activities related to demining in the country.
The institution was created in 2022, from the merger of the National Demining Institute, the Executive Demining Commission and the demining brigades of the Armed Forces and the President’s Military House. It has administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy.
