Africa-Press – Angola. The former Angolan Vice-President of the Republic and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, who died on Thursday, victim of illness, will be buried on Monday, the 22nd, at the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery, in Luanda.

The information was provided, Friday, by the coordinator of the Interministerial Commission for Funerals, Francisco Pereira Furtado, at a press conference to address the program defined by the executive in coordination with the family.

According to the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the Presidency of the Republic, the autopsy on the body of Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was carried out on Friday, and the clinical results are reserved for the medical team, who will be able to comment.

He said that the obsequies will begin on Sunday, with the wake taking place in the late afternoon at the Executive Protocol Complex, in the Praia do Bispo neighborhood, where the body will remain in a burning chamber until Monday morning.

He detailed that the official State funeral ceremony will take place on Monday morning, from 9 am, with the reading of messages of tribute, including from the family, the political party to which he belonged, the sovereign bodies and the President of the Republic.

The burial is scheduled for the period between 11 am and 12 pm, at the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic decreed 24-hour National Mourning, to be observed on December 22nd, from 00:00 to 23:59.

During the period of mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the national territory and festive, cultural and recreational activities will be suspended, in accordance with the law.

The Interministerial Commission ensures that all protocol and logistical conditions are met for the ceremonies to take place, including the possible presence of foreign entities, for which the Minister of Foreign Affairs is also included.

Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos is remembered as an unavoidable figure in the political history of Angola, whose path indelibly marked the consolidation of the Angolan State.
