Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the ruling MPLA, Mara Quiosa, said on Friday in Luanda that the country had lost one of its finest sons, a man with a high sense of statehood, who had assumed important responsibilities in the government apparatus.
Speaking to the press as she left the residence of the former Vice-President of the Republic, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos,who died Thursday after suffering from illness, she also highlighted the fact that he was a dedicated party activist.
Mara Quiosa expressed her condolences to the bereaved family, having stressed that this is a time to remember and give thanks for everything the nationalist did for the country, especially for Angolans.
Fellow nationalist Roberto de Almeida, on his turn, emphasized the impact of his death, adding that ‘his passing came as a great shock to us, as we were looking forward to a festive period’.
‘He was a man and comrade whom we greatly appreciated, endowed with many qualities, who served our country in an exemplary manner,’ he said.
He also recalled that he had recently been with the deceased and described the conversation as calm, with no indication that a tragic outcome could occur.
The former secretary-general of the MPLA, Dino Matrosse, highlighted the legacy left by the politician.
‘He was a comrade of great prestige, a good man who got on well with everyone,’ he added.
‘The empathy he showed was visible. He had a very close relationship with the people, not just with his friends, but with everyone,’ he concluded.
