Africa-Press – Angola. The fishing industry in Namibe produced 116,620 tons of various fish in 2025, which is a 13% decrease from 2024.
Piedade Goahe, the director of the provincial Fisheries and Sea office, told that the reduction in 2025 was due to climatic issues. He added that 130,352 tons of various fish were caught in 2024.
Goahe added that horse mackerel was the most commonly caught species in 2025, accounting for 25% of the total catch. Other species accounted for 38%, while mackerel and grouper accounted for 24% and 13%, respectively.
He stated that of the total fish caught during the analyzed period, 71,566 tons were intended for direct consumption (62%), 17,892 tons for salting and drying (15%), and 26,037 tons for freezing (23%).
Regarding the fishing fleet, he said that, in 2025, it consisted of 1,609 vessels: 44 industrial, 58 semi-industrial, and 1,507 artisanal.
Piedade Goanhe emphasized that 381,315.07 kilograms of various fish were exported to China and Portugal, including 308,500 kg of crab, 6,500 kg of crab paste, and 61,315.07 kg of octopus.
