Angolan Government Signs Agreement for International Cards

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan government and the global electronic transaction network VISA have signed an agreement to expand the use of international cards in the country, primarily among tourists, said the Minister of Tourism, Marcio Daniel, in Luanda.

This announcement was made during the 21st edition of Café CIPRA, a forum organized by the Press Centre of the Presidency of the Republic of Angola (CIPRA) with the theme “Promoting Tourism in Angola: Challenges and Opportunities”.

Marcio Daniel said that the agreement was the result of observations by the Ministry and financial regulatory institutions that these cards were still being used very little in the country’s hotels and tourist establishments, which was hindering the growth of the sector and revenue collection.

According to the minister, many operators in the sector currently do not request international payments when subscribing to the Automated Payment Terminal service.

“It’s not a technological problem. The technology for this exists today; the problem is that operators have not yet made that choice”, he clarified, adding that this problem will be resolved soon.

During the event, the minister presented an overview of the sector’s current situation and the main areas for improvement, namely investment in human capital, creating infrastructural conditions and promoting national tourist brands and destinations.
