Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred diamond stones of various carats were seized between June 2022 and the present date, at the Santa-Clara customs area, in the municipality of Namacunde, Cunene, by the National Police.
The information on Friday, by the delegate of the Ministry of the Interior in Cunene, commissioner Leitão Ribeiro, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 44th anniversary of the institution, which takes place under the motto “Firm in building public order, betting on humanization and modernization of services”.
On the occasion, the commander of the National Police explained that the diamonds were seized and those involved detained when they tried to cross the border from Santa – Clara, towards Angola/Namibia.
Leitão Ribeiro informed that, in the period in question, the police seized 60 kilograms of cannabis and cocaine, with the arrest of the elements that transported the drugs.
He made it known, on the other hand, that in the same border perimeter, the forces prevented the departure of 14 thousand and 570 liters of gasoline and diesel, destined for the neighboring country.
“The fight against fuel smuggling, with greater emphasis on gasoline, will continue to be our main focus, on the border perimeter with Namibia, to discourage this practice”, he said.
With regard to cross-border and related crimes, he said that there were 246 customs tax violations, with the seizure of 123 vehicles, 302 motorcycles, 10,850 US dollars.
He also informed that, in the context of border violations, there were 3,195 attempts to leave and enter, with the interpellation and impediment of 7,204 national and foreign citizens.
Leitão Ribeiro highlighted the readiness and engagement of the delegation bodies in controlling public order and security, sparing no effort to maintain an environment of healthy conviviality.
He recalled that the maintenance of order has been possible due to the conditions provided for the improvement and increase of the capacity to respond to the needs of the staff.
He said it was a challenge for the Ministry to carry out continuous work aimed at improving the social conditions of the staff, to raise morale, reflecting on empathy with society.
He explained that overall, 1,738 crimes took place in the province, with a significant reduction of 1,498 cases, compared to the previous period, which resulted in the arrest of 1,245 citizens.
He made it known that the special regime increases the responsibility of its members in the transmission of moral and ethical values, added with the imperative of humanization and modernization of services.
Leitão Ribeiro reaffirmed that he will carry out the guidelines for the promotion of careers, raising professional capacity, with specialized and academic training.
The Ministry of the Interior is the Angolan State body whose mission is to propose, formulate, coordinate, execute and evaluate the Angolan Executive’s policy in matters of internal order and public security.
