Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty-two new genetic profiles of victims of the political conflict of May 27, 1977, have recently been identified, of which 21 belong to females, many of whom have not yet been claimed by their families.
This information was provided by CIVICOP member Manuel Halaiwa during the ceremony to hand over remains to families, a moment marked by emotion and calls for national reconciliation.
He explained that each genetic profile corresponds to a person with an identity and a history.
For this reason, he requested, especially for families who lost female relatives, that they go to the Central Criminalistics Laboratory to donate biological samples for identity confirmation.
For the relative of Henriques Samuel Lemos, brother of Abel Bartolomeu João Lemos, this moment serves as a relief for the families.
(Talatona – This appears to be a separate, unrelated text fragment and is not translated.) “This gesture allows us to calm down and believe that it is possible to forgive and move on,” he stated.
João David, a relative of Afonso Destinado Bento Botaz, said that after 49 years, it is finally possible to give his loved one a dignified burial.
Nelson Garcia, in turn, stated that the family feels comforted by finally knowing the whereabouts of their relative, “because today we know where he is and we can bury him with dignity.”
The remains are part of a total of 620 discovered in a mass grave in the Cemetery of the 14th. The first nine were buried last month.
