Africa-Press – Angola. Fifty-one diamonds of different carats were seized over the weekend in the municipalities of Cuango, Xá-muteba, Lucapa and Cambulo, province of Lunda Norte, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).

The information was provided this Monday, in Dundo, by the technician from the Institutional Communication and Press department of the National Police in Lunda Norte, Alexandre Pereira, stressing that the detention of the diamonds resulted from a micro-operation carried out in mineral exploration areas. strategic.

Without revealing the number of citizens involved in the crime of trafficking and illicit possession of diamonds, he said that during the operation nine thousand US dollars and 571 thousand kwanzas were also seized, as well as various means used for the illegal exploitation of that resource.

The official added that 6,900 liters of diesel were also seized for smuggling along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

On the other hand, he made it known that diamond mining has been the main attraction for illegal immigrants in the DRC.

He said that last weekend 637 DRC citizens were arrested for attempting to enter Angolan territory illegally.

After the detention, he continued, the immigrants were immediately repatriated to their country of origin.
