Africa-Press – Angola. Seven corpses have been abandoned for more than a month by their relatives in the morgue of the central hospital in Lubango “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”, a situation that worries the authorities of the health unit.
The information was, this Tuesday, in this city, by the head of the hospital user’s office, Lino Camufingo, clarifying that they were male corpses, aged between 20 and 50 years.
According to the person in charge, this situation has created constraints in the normal functioning of the morgue of this largest health unit in the province.
According to Lino Camufingo, of the seven bodies, four belong to people collected on the public road, victims of being run over, but who did not resist the trauma even after being rescued at the hospital.
The person in charge clarified that the rest have identification, but unfortunately the families have not yet appeared.
The person in charge made it known that gender situations have been recurrent, although some patients leave telephone contacts for their relatives, which, however, after the death of their relatives do not work.
He detailed that they are already encouraging contacts with Community Services so that they can be buried and appealed to family members to carry out the identification of their loved ones in the morgue.
In turn, Lubango municipal director for Environment and Basic Sanitation, Green Spaces and Cemeteries, Venâncio Ukuahamba, made it known that, last week, the burial of six bodies abandoned by relatives in the mortuary of the local sanatorium hospital .
According to the person in charge, this procedure is only carried out at the request of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), with the presentation of documentation and the guarantee that the corpses are considered unknown, as this body is responsible for all the expertise of forensic medicine.
The internal mortuary of the central hospital has the capacity to store 21 bodies, while the one outside the unit, under the responsibility of the municipal administration, has 12 bodies, and at the moment has 16 bodies, while the sanatorium can also house 12. dead bodies.
