Africa-Press – Angola. The efforts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, for peace and stability on the African continent, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mozambique, were praised, this Thursday, by academics and political analysts, in Luanda.
Regarding the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, marked this Wednesday, 31st, they stated that the Angolan statesman has played a “quite valuable” role in the search for harmony and political, economic and social stability, on the continent in general.
They highlighted the diplomatic actions aimed at guaranteeing security on the continent, the cradle of humanity, through dialogue with different forces and institutions.
According to academic Jorge Boavida, President João Lourenço has stood out, in recent times, in actions aimed at reconciliation between the people and governments of several countries in conflict or political instability.
“We have to recognize the preponderant role of President João Lourenço, who, in recent days, has been committed to resolving conflict problems in several countries, such as neighboring DRC, Rwanda, Mozambique and others, whose instability is very great”, highlighted.
For this reason, he considered the designation of the Angolan statesman as “Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa” in May 2022 to be correct.
For his part, university professor Wilton Micolo declared that the President of the Republic has interpreted and assumed this role (of champion) “selflessly”.
From the academic’s perspective, João Lourenço understands that only through dialogue, permanent consultation and negotiation concessions can peace be achieved.
“In fact, Angola has experience and a historical role in the search for peaceful solutions to resolve conflicts”, he maintained.
Therefore, he concluded, on the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa “we are presented with yet another opportunity to reflect deeply and continuously on the phenomena that give rise to African conflicts and the most appropriate mechanisms for their resolution”.
The anniversary was established during the 16th extraordinary session of the summit of heads of state and government of the African Union (AU) on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Governments in Africa.
The conference took place on May 28, 2022, in the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo.
