Africa-Press – Angola. African leaders have officially adopted the “Addis Ababa Declaration on Climate Change and Call for Action” at ACS2 in Ethiopia, a historic moment putting Africa at the forefront of global climate action. African leaders have also committed to lead the Africa-led solutions by launching the “Africa Climate Innovation Compact.”
They decided that the nature-based solutions are the gateway for climate-resilient and green development that was recognized by Ethiopia’s Green Legacy as a continental model in this regard.
The Leaders Declaration called for “strengthened and sustained support to scale up the implementation of the African-led climate initiatives such as the African Union Great Green Wall Initiative, the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative, and the Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiative, among others.”
The Declaration turns vulnerability into leadership, calling for justice and fair and homegrown Africa-led solutions to combat climate change on the global stage. The other key outcomes included a unified African position for COP, new partnerships, innovation showcases, and commitments to climate finance cumulating in the Addis Ababa Declaration on Climate Change.
ACS-2 spotlighted the shifts needed to drive Africa towards a green, prosperous, and climate-resilient future: climate finance, nature-based solutions, renewable energy, sustainable food systems, green cities, e-mobility, and indigenous knowledge.
Under the theme of Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development, the summit brought together leaders, policymakers, financiers, youth, innovators, academics, civil society, and the media. The Africa Climate Summit 2 (ACS2) was hosted by the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) in collaboration with the African Union (AU).
