Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s current account balance recorded a surplus of 294.4 million US dollars in the second quarter of 2025, equivalent to 0.8% of gross domestic product (GDP).

The figure represents a 45.4% contraction compared to the previous quarter.

According to the Note on External Statistics for the Second Quarter of 2025, available on the National Bank of Angola’s (BNA) website, the behavior of the current account was mainly due to the 8.6% contraction in the goods account and the worsening of current transfers.

The deterioration was also due to the primary income account’s performance, which decreased by 90.7% and 0.5%, respectively, despite the services account’s deficit balance improving by 9.6%.

The document adds that the capital and financial account recorded a surplus of USD 238.9 million compared to a deficit of USD 955.0 million in the previous quarter. This improvement is attributed to the performance of net direct investment flows.

According to the document, the net international investment position recorded a worsening deficit of $638.9 million, primarily due to an increase in liabilities to non-residents.

The international net reserve stood at 15,660.6 million U.S. dollars at the end of the second quarter of 2025, ensuring coverage of 8.8 months of imports of goods and services.
