Africa-Press – Angola. The municipal administrator of Cuanhama, Cunene province, José Kalomo, defended Thursday, the need for permanent maintenance of the public lighting network in the urban center of the city of Ondjiva, aiming to reverse the situation of blackouts at night.

José Kalomo, who was speaking at the inauguration ceremony for new public office managers, acknowledged that there were weaknesses in the process of maintaining the existing network and creating others to reach the various neighborhoods that are in the dark and allow Ondjiva to be illuminated.

He said it is the Government’s objective to work on the extension and maintenance of the public lighting network on the main routes surrounding the city of Ondjiva, to ensure greater road safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

Regarding the Tourism and Culture sector, he said that the challenge is to stimulate cultural action in the various domains, respect and control it, as well as establish good relations with traditional authorities.

In another aspect, he requested the improvement of existing informal markets in the district, complying with the regular cleaning and hygiene plan, in order to guarantee adequate sanitation for sellers and customers.

In the Health sector, it was necessary to implement a humanized assistance program and rapid care for patients, in order to meet the needs of the population.

During the event, the municipal directors of Energy and Water, Estêvão Siwoomwenyo, Tourism and Culture, Teodoro Mwavalulange, and the director of Economic and Integrated Development, Erick Hamukwaya, were sworn in.

The heads of the Caculuvale health center, Maria Mukete, the health center of the Oifidi leprosarium, Anatoria Ndakola, and of Ombuba, Doroteia Hipondilo, also took office.

The municipality of Cuanhama has 360,491 inhabitants, administratively divided into the municipalities of Ondjiva, Môngua, Evale, Oshimolo and Nehone.
