Africa-Press – Angola. African ambassadors accredited in Angola expressed, this Monday, interest in identifying investment opportunities in the areas of tourism and agriculture in the province of Huíla, due to their potential.

These are diplomats from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Uganda, Mauritania, Ghana, Cape Verde, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Eritrea, Zambia, Algeria and Rwanda.

The group’s visit aims to explore and share trade and investment opportunities among other potential areas of mutual cooperation, as well as getting to know and experiencing the province’s tourist attractions, as well as the culture of the Huilano population.

Speaking after an audience with the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, the head of the delegation, Lawrence Chalungumana, stated that the group chose to promote trade and investment in Huíla, including in agriculture, the latter one of the focuses, as it is a sector of primordial development of any zone.

The Zambia ambassador also declared that in Africa there are fertile and arable soils, so, with agriculture, progress can be made in terms of sharing knowledge, as a solution to reduce inflation in Africa.

He mentioned that his country is already self-sufficient in seed production, which is why agriculture is used to diversify its economy.

The diplomat highlighted the Lobito Corridor as one of the opportunities for Zambia, which the heads of state agreed to develop, by involving their country, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, to facilitate the export of products.

He pointed out that 40 percent of Zambia’s production is done internally, auguring the need to work on the institutionalization of single currencies to facilitate transactions.

Lawrence Chalungumana highlighted that tourism is another area that has potential because it is being renewed and they are also in Huíla to promote tourism.

“The African continent is at the governor’s disposal to take advantage of the enormous potential it presents, as he executes the province’s development agenda. We are about to establish lasting cooperation. Africa is a rich continent, hence our orientation towards economic diplomacy”, he reinforced.

In turn, the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, highlighted that the province has vast potential and with the meeting they have an opportunity to outline development strategies in the areas listed.

Regarding agriculture, he said that Huíla has arable soil, pointing out that it is a priority in the partnership, as they have to work to feed Africa, alongside tourism.

“Meetings are always important and it is expected to strengthen relationships, as well as opportunities to do business in the development of the province”, he highlighted.

The group of African ambassadors accredited in Angola is on a two-day visit to Huíla and during their stay they will visit the Moçâmedes Railway, the companies Metalosul and Hipermáquinas, the latter located in the municipality of Chibia.

The second day, on Tuesday, includes visits to the Huíla Regional Museum, the Science and Technology Center, the Christ the King monument, Fenda da Tundavala, as well as the Jamba farm and the Ornamental Flower and Fruit Production Greenhouse , both in the municipality of Humpata.

On Wednesday, the delegation headed by Lawrence Chalungumana makes a similar visit to Namibe.
