Africa-Press – Angola. The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), of which Angola is a member, will meet on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to review the activities of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

The meeting will also review the implementation of the Regional Strategy for Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience in the Lake Chad Basin.

It follows a meeting of the African Union PSC, which in January reviewed the report of the AU Commission presidents on the MNJTF’s activities against Boko Haram.

At that meeting, the MNJTF’s mandate was renewed for another 12 months, and the AUC and the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) Secretariat were asked to submit regular reports on the Force’s actions.

The session called for the need to strengthen diplomatic engagement, particularly with Niger, to bolster regional counterterrorism efforts, according to Amani Africa Media and Research, an independent think tank on the functioning of the PSC.

It also drew attention to the need to strengthen coordination and effective participation by MNJTF contributing countries and tasked the Lake Chad Basin Commission to continue to engage with Niger to ensure its full return and cooperation with the Force.

The session also recommended a comprehensive and inclusive approach, as well as civil-military cooperation to create conditions for the return of displaced persons.

According to Amani Africa Media and Research, Tuesday’s session is expected to build on these priorities, with a special focus on operational developments, current security dynamics, and the status of RS-SRR implementation, especially the review and update of the strategy.

Angola has presided over the African Union since February this year, a mandate that ends in February 2026.
