Africa-Press – Angola. The players of the senior men’s national basketball team are confident of a victory against Cape Verde, but also aware of the challenges they will face.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, at the end of the final training session, center Sílvio de Sousa admitted that it will be a difficult game, hoping for the presence of the public, starting at 7 p.m., at the Kilamba pavilion, to help the group through the most difficult moments.

For his part, point guard Selton Miguel stated that the team has a lot of confidence and that everyone is prepared for any setbacks.

“It will be a very difficult game, just like the others. We need to be ourselves and try to exploit Cape Verde’s mistakes as much as possible,” he said.João Fernandes said this was his first African Championship and, therefore, a dream come true.

“Cape Verde is very strong and has experienced players, but we’ll give our all to the delight of all the fans who are always with us these days,” he emphasized.

To reach the quarterfinals, Angola finished undefeated in Group C with victories over Libya (85-53), Guinea (84-68), and South Sudan (66-64).

Cape Verde defeated Rwanda (75-62), lost to Côte d’Ivoire (81-82), and triumphed against the DRC (75-66).

In the round of 16, they defeated the defending champion, Tunisia (87-54).

Angola and Cape Verde last played in 2021, in Rwanda. The national five lost in overtime by 71-77.
