Africa-Press – Angola. The coach of the National Basketball Team, Aníbal Moreira, highlighted (Monday), in Luanda, the commitment and dedication of the team that allowed two victories in AFROCAN’2023, which will be disputed in the Kilamba pavilion, despite some failures.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the match of the 2nd round of Group B, in which Angola beat Nigeria, by 57-48, and advance to the quarter-finals, the coach expressed satisfaction at finishing the phase in 1st place, with four points, even with atypical behavior.
“The team made an effort to overcome the opponent, who to some extent took advantage of the bad approach to the game by our players. But the important thing was to win the game and that’s what happened. Now, some rough edges and corrections are needed in the defensive system”, he said.
In the game against Mali, in the debut, despite having won the match, the selection took several risks, due to lack of concentration, also happening with Nigeria, in which they had many losses of the ball and many defensive errors.
In addition to taking advantage of the break, for eventual corrections, the coach also expressed the players’ conviction to fight for the improvement of the 3rd position of the previous edition.
In turn, the Nigerian coach, Ogoh Odaudu, was unhappy with the defeat, having pointed out his players’ anxiety to win being the basis of the negative result, judging by the mistakes made by the opponent.
“We lost the game in the third quarter, despite the effort that the players made to get the victory”, he lamented. The Nigerian coach also informed that he will take advantage of the break and recover his team, increase confidence levels, for the next games.
