Africa-Press – Angola. Agriculture is the productive sector that has grown the most in recent years, with 6.6 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in the period 2022/2023, revealed in Bengo, the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock , João da Cunha.

This growth is higher than the oil sector, which proves the strength that the agriculture sector is having in the national economy, said the person in charge when delivering inputs and small agricultural equipment to ten young farmers who stood out in their activity in the province from Bengo.

“The country has never produced as much as it is producing now, it is a concrete fact, there is a substantial increase in production and productivity in Angola, this festive season will be one of the examples. Our markets are being supplied with national agricultural products, which shows that the sector is growing”, she revealed.

Even so, he stressed that Angola cannot continue to import as much food as it has been doing, as the country has land, water, electricity and a young population with enough strength to carry out the aim of taking the country to be self-sustainable at agricultural level.

He referred to the growth margin that still exists and highlighted the sector’s participation in the process of economic diversification, bringing more and more foreign currency to the country by selling part of its production abroad.

He informed that MINAGRIF is relaunching coffee and cocoa production, providing seedlings, and encouraging the emergence of nursery breeders to disseminate the production of these crops in provinces where conditions favor.

The delivery of resources is part of the campaign to support and promote young farmers that MINAGRIF is carrying out, at national level, with the aim of identifying and empowering young farmers in each province of Angola.

The campaign aims to encourage youth to produce more, increase the productive capacity of those who are already producing and encourage others to embrace agricultural activity in the country.
