Africa-Press – Angola. Ambassador Agostinho de Carvalho Van-Dúnem delivered, Friday, in Washington DC, to the Head of Protocol of the Department of State, Rufus Gifford, the Letters.

This is the first step towards becoming official as Angola’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United States of America (USA).

Agostinho Van-Dúnem was appointed in March of this year by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to replace Joaquim do Espírito Santo.

Angola is the third largest US trading partner in sub-Shaharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports.

The two countries cooperate in various fields, with emphasis on trade, finance, energy, manufacturing, security, health and justice.

Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem, 52, has a degree in International Relations from the University of Minho (Portugal), as a diplomatic assistant.

The diplomat was part of several restructuring committees of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says in a note the Angolan Embassy in the US, in Washington.
