Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to Brazil, Manuel Eduardo Bravo, highlighted last Wednesday in Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia, the historical significance and political and literary legacy of Angola’s first president, AntoĢnio Agostinho Neto.
Presided over the celebrations for September 17th, National Hero’s Day, according to a press release sent this Saturday, the diplomat said that Neto is one of the greatest figures in the national liberation process and the achievement of independence for Angola and Africa.
After laying a wreath at the bust of the Founder of the Nation, erected at the Casa de Angola Cultural Center in Bahia, Manuel Bravo emphasized that in 2025, the date takes on special significance, as Angola marks 50 years of National Independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brazil.Also as part of the celebrations, the University for the International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB) hosted an academic lecture on the theme “Agostinho Neto: The Doctor and Poet Who Liberated the Homeland.”
Brazilian professor and writer Dejanira Rainha discussed the life and work of Agostinho Neto, emphasizing his decisive contribution to the emancipation of Angola and his literary expression, marked by the famous maxim: “The most important thing is to solve the people’s problems.”
During his stay at UNILAB, the ambassador interacted with Angolan students, sharing insights into the importance of Neto’s legacy and presenting literary works by the Founder of the Nation to the institution’s library.
September 17, National Hero’s Day, is celebrated annually in Angola and the diaspora in memory of Agostinho Neto, with various political, social, and cultural activities.
