Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union (AU), Miguel César Domingos Bembe, received Thursday, in Addis Ababa, a delegation from the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), headed by its interim president, Ethiopian diplomat Asherbir Gayo.
According to a note sent this Friday, in Luanda, the meeting allowed a review of the ongoing reform process in the AU and the challenges of the PAP, since its creation, on May 18, 2004.
During the courtesy visit that the African parliamentary delegation paid to the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Miguel Bembe also received detailed information about the functioning of the PAP.
Miguel Bembe is also Angola’s permanent representative to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
The African parliamentary delegation present in Addis Ababa is made up of deputies Adalberto Costa Júnior (Angola), Emmanuel Lowilla (South Sudan), Manuel Doria (Equatorial Guinea) and Miles Sampa (Zambia), as well as the political advisor to the interim president , Malini Sewocksingh, from Mauritius.
The delegation announced that it intends to hold similar meetings with the permanent representatives of other African countries accredited to the AU, in Addis Ababa.
Parliamentarians highlighted their commitment to defending a PAP with more resources and powers to play a crucial role in the continent’s development.
The city of Addis Ababa is preparing to host the 44th and 37th ordinary sessions, respectively, of the Executive Council and the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU scheduled for 14 to 18 February this year.
The PAP, based in Midrand, South Africa, intends to hold partial elections on February 28th to fill the positions of president, first vice-president and fourth vice-president.
