Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, addressed, on Tuesday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residents Abroad, Nasser Bourita, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Angola and Morocco.

During the meeting, the two individuals converged on the need to boost the bonds of friendship that unite the two countries in the most varied domains of economic, social and political life.

Speaking to the press, Carolina Cerqueira said that she had maintained a fruitful and open dialogue with the Moroccan minister, which served to review the current state of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and peoples, as well as the need for Morocco to be involved in the process of pacification of the Great Lakes Region and East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The leader of the Angolan parliament added that she took the opportunity to inform the Moroccan minister of Angola’s efforts, through the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to end the conflict in the East of the DRC and in the Great Lakes Region.

Carolina Cerqueira highlighted the role that the two countries can play in promoting and maintaining peace, stability and security for the African populations, as well as in permanent concertation in favor of peace in the African region, in building a developed and peaceful Africa.

Regarding the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, Carolina Cerqueira pointed out the areas of tourism, training, agriculture, pharmaceutical industry and education as those of greatest interest to Angola.

Carolina Cerqueira is in Morocco at the invitation of the local parliament, with a delegation made up of deputies Alcides Sakala, Lourdes Caposso and Narciso Benedito, as well as the secretary general of the National Assembly, Agostinho Nery.

This Tuesday, he signed a cooperation agreement with the Chamber of Representatives and also held meetings with the President of the Chamber of Councillors, Naam Miyara, and with the President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami .

This Tuesday’s agenda also included a visit to the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V, during which Carolina Cerqueira honored the monarch with the laying down of a wreath.

Remember that relations between Morocco and Angola date back to the 60s of the last century.

Within the scope of bilateral cooperation, Angola and Morocco signed, in October 1988, the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, which allowed for the holding of the first Session of the Joint Bilateral Angolan-Moroccan Commission, in Rabat, in October 1989.

The second meeting of the Joint Bilateral Commission between the two countries took place in November 2013 in Luanda.

The two countries cooperate in the areas of education, agriculture, trade, among others. VM

The agreement signed by the President of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira, and by the President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami, essentially aims at strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the exchange of experience in the most various domains.

It is also intended, with the agreement in question, the dynamism of bilateral cooperation and friendship and the promotion of the historical relations between the two peoples.

By the way, the President of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira, mentioned the fact that she sealed the firm commitment to guarantee the reinforcement of interaction and exchange mechanisms, through the sharing of information and regular mutual consultation between the two institutions.

The leader of the Angolan parliament said that it represents a great step forward in strengthening parliamentary cooperation, with a focus on sustainable development, the defense and promotion of peace, the fight against climate change, the energy crisis, poverty, the promotion of youth autonomy, the equality of women and the improvement of the conditions of the populations, as well as the training of staff and consultation in relation to the major issues on the world parliamentary agenda.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, this is still a new page opened in the cooperation between the two parliaments, in particular, and between the two countries in general, which will deserve special attention with the constitution of the friendship group focused on promoting the path to be taken together.
