Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, expressed, this Monday, solidarity with the people of Mauritius affected by cyclone Belal.
In a message sent to her counterpart in Mauritius, Sooroojdev Phokeer, the leader of the Angolan parliament hopes that the worrying situation will be overcome, with greater speed and commitment from the institutions, in order to return to normality.
“It is with deep concern and consternation that I have been following the devastating effect of Cyclone Belal in Mauritius, causing extensive human and material damage. At this difficult time, I would like, on behalf of the National Assembly of Angola and myself, to express our solidarity”.
Carolina Cerqueira says that the concern that moved the discussion, in the last Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, held from 22 to 26 November 2023, in Port Louis, Mauritius, is present, the harmful effects of climate change on the social and material stability of member countries, as well as the prevention, containment and repair measures that must be prioritized to help victims of natural disasters and protect infrastructure and assets.
