Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) recently arrested Francisco Paciente, chairperson of the National Association of Taxi Drivers of Angola (ANATA), in Luanda, for allegedly committing crimes of criminal association, incitement to violence, threatening transportation safety, and terrorism.
According to a SIC press release, signed by its spokesperson, Manuel Halaiwa, there is strong evidence of Francisco Paciente’s involvement in the acts of vandalism and disorder against public and private property and services, which took place from July 28 to 30 of this year.
The document states that the action, which took place last Friday, results from a detention warrant issued by the Public Prosecution Service, following a ongoing investigation.
Recently, ANATA vice president, Rodrigo Luciano Catimba, was also detained in Benguela by SIC, for alleged incitement to violence, public apology, rebellion and terrorism.
Angolan taxi drivers paralyzed services from July 28 to 30, to claim, among others, the climb of fuel price.
Following the strike, violent demonstrations were held in the country that caused the vandalization of about 118 commercial establishments, 24 public transport, more than 20 civil vehicles, five vehicles and a motorcycle of the defense and safety agencies and an ambulance.
Because of the actions of vandalism, rim and looting of public and private goods, 30 people died in eight provinces of the country, namely Luanda, Benguela, Icolo and Bengo, Malanje, Huíla, Bengo, Huambo and Lunda-Norte.
The action provoked 277 injured, 110 of the National Police. A thousand 515 citizens were arrested for alleged involvement in this practice.
