Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s national team will attempt to secure their first victory against two-time champion Morocco in the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025), the men’s football competition reserved for players active in their countries’ domestic leagues, which begins on Saturday in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Group A match between Angola and Morroco will be played at 4 p.m. at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
This will be the first time the two teams have met in this competition for domestic championship players.
Angola was the runner-up in the 2011 edition held in Sudan after losing 3-0 to Tunisia in the final. Meanwhile, Morocco won the event in 2018 with a 4-0 victory over Nigeria.
Morocco returned to the podium in 2020 in Cameroon, where they defeated Mali 2-0 in the final.
This is Angola’s fifth time participating in the event, following appearances in 2011 (Sudan), 2016 (Rwanda), 2018 (Morocco), and 2022 (Algeria).
Morocco is making its sixth appearance after competing in 2014 (South Africa), 2016 (Rwanda), 2018 (Morocco), 2020 (Cameroon), and 2022 (South Africa).
Angola will play again on August 7 against Kenya at 5 p.m., and then against Zambia on August 10 at 4 p.m.
Morocco will play Kenya at 1 p.m. on August 14, Zambia at 3 p.m., and the DRC at 1 p.m. on August 17.
The competition will be played in three countries (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) and kicks off this Saturday with the match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso at 6 p.m. at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Tanzania.
Senegal is the defending champion.
Today, the event organizers have only scheduled the match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso at 6 p.m., after the opening ceremony.
On Sunday, Kenya will face the DRC at 1 p.m., Morocco will face Angola at 4 p.m., and Madagascar will face Mauritania at 6 p.m.
The countries participating in the competition are:
Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Congo, and Zambia
Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic
Group C: Algeria, South Africa, Guinea, Niger, and Uganda
Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria JAD/MC/amp
