Angola and Africa CDC Discuss Health Security Issues in Luanda

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, received, on Monday afternoon, in Luanda, the Director-General of the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Jean Kaseya. The head of the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has been in Luanda since Sunday, leading a delegation for an official mission focused on health security issues and response to public health emergencies, according to a note from MIREX.

During the meeting, the two entities focused on strengthening the partnership between Angola and Africa CDC to combat cholera and malaria epidemics, as well as strengthening the national capacity to prepare for and respond to epidemic outbreaks.The Director General of Africa CDC shared with the Secretary of State for Communities of MIREX the progress and initiatives underway in the support provided to Angola, particularly in the fight against the cholera outbreak affecting several provinces of the country. He said that, in coordination with the Angolan Ministry of Health, Africa CDC has ensured specialized technical support, mobilized human resources, and provided medical materials and laboratory supplies essential for containing the outbreak. In this context of strategic cooperation, Domingos Vieira Lopes expressed satisfaction with the substantial progress achieved in the assistance provided by Africa CDC to the Republic of Angola, highlighting the relevance of joint action in strengthening national capacities for prevention, surveillance and rapid response to health emergency situations of an epidemic nature.
