Head of State Receives Director-General of the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention

Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, also President of the African Union, received the Director-General of the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Jean Kaseya, at the Presidential Palace, Monday 21st.

“As the person responsible for the health sector on the African continent, I have to come regularly to provide some information”, Jean Kaseya explained his mission.The Africa CDC is a specialized agency of the African Union whose mission is to strengthen African public health institutions to detect and respond to threats and disease outbreaks. It is headquartered in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, where the main offices of the African Union are also located. Jean Kaseya also said that he welcomed the efforts made by health authorities to eradicate the cholera outbreak affecting some regions of the country. He also announced that a factory for treated mosquito nets will be set up in Angola, which will be able to serve not only the country but also the continent.
