Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Cuba discussed the state of relations in the cultural field last weekend in Havana, with the aim to develop and promote existing bilateral cooperation, as well as outline a new format for collaboration.
According to a press release, the collaboration will from now be related to the principles of reciprocity and mutual benefits.
According to the Secretary of State for Culture, Maria de Jesus, Angola’s representative at the meeting, the aim is also to expand knowledge about the national identity and ensure the participation of artists and cultural professionals.
She explained that this interaction will take place at international festivals and conferences held in both countries, as well as the exchange of experts to share experiences.
Maria de Jesus stressed that these exchanges should take on a more pronounced character this year, as Angola will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
As part of the visit, Angola and Cuba announced the implementation of several projects related to culture and the creative industry in the near future.
The same specialists will be involved in the areas of restoration of historical and cultural heritage, artistic education, museums, music, dance, theatre and other events.
The Secretary of State, who is on a five-day visit to the Caribbean Island to participate in the 40th International Jazz Plaza Festival, has already visited the University of the Arts of Cuba.
The institution mainly teaches the historical development of music and its instruments from the 16th to the 20th century.

Angola and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 15 November 1975, four days after Angola’s independence, and a year later, they agreed on the General Cooperation Agreement that gave rise to the Bilateral Commission.
