Angola and Kyrgyzstan decided, on Saturday, to strengthen and promote new areas of cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations.The decision was made following a meeting between the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asein Isaev, held on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, which ends today in that tourist city on the Turkish coast. During the meeting, the two entities reviewed the current state of cooperation between Angola and Kyrgyzstan, reiterating their intention to deepen relations in a wide range of political, diplomatic and economic areas. The exchange of visits between entities from both countries and the formalisation of new cooperation instruments, with a view to strengthening bilateral partnerships, were also discussed during the meeting. Although cooperation relations between Angola and Kyrgyzstan are still in their infancy, both governments expressed their willingness to identify areas of common interest, with the aim of expanding the bilateral legal framework. The aim is also to align policies that promote cooperation both bilaterally and in international organizations.In the context of bilateral relations, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Political Consultation Mechanisms between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Angola and Kyrgyzstan was signed on 12 November 2024 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the COP-29 Summit.
Furthermore, in September 2024, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the two countries expressed their interest in strengthening political and diplomatic cooperation through the signing of legal instruments.
Kyrgyzstan is a country in Central Asia, located along the ancient Silk Road – a trade route between China and the Mediterranean. The Tian Shan mountains, which surround the ancient caravan route, dominate the territory and are home to leopards, lynxes and wild sheep. In the south, the ancient city of Osh is home to one of the largest bazaars in the region, which was an important stop on the Silk Road.
