Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador Daniel António Rosa addressed, Tuesday, in Manila, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, aspects related to cooperation between the two countries.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the first official visit to the Philippines by the Angolan representative in Singapore, the two entities touched on the need to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace of Malacañang, as part of the celebration of the Independence Day of the Philippines, served for the Angolan diplomat to share some data about Angola.

In addition to the meeting with the Head of State, Daniel Rosa was also received by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Enrique A. Manalo, with whom he dealt with issues related to cooperation in the various areas of common interest for Angola and the Philippines, to be translated shortly in the signing of legal instruments between the two Governments.

The two personalities also addressed the ongoing political and economic transformations in Angola, since President João Lourenço took over the leadership of the country, in 2017.

The head of the Angolan diplomatic mission took the opportunity to ask the Philippine Government for support in the legalization of Angolan citizens who are in an illegal situation, also making known the decision of the Angolan authorities to increase their diplomatic representation in the Philippines, with the appointment of an ambassador with resident status, in Manila, within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

On his turn, the head of Philippine diplomacy welcomed the reforms underway in Angola and expressed his Government’s total willingness to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation with the Angolan State, in various sectors.

He also pointed out, as one of the priorities, the carrying out, in the near future, of bilateral political consultations, with the aim of strengthening political-diplomatic cooperation ties, pointing out, as priority areas for cooperation, agriculture, food security, renewable energies, infrastructure and culture.

The Philippines, according to the official, intends to strengthen multilateral cooperation at the level of Group 77 and China, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international organizations, having, for this purpose, requested Angola’s support for its candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, for the biennium 2027-2028, whose elections will take place at the end of 2026.

In Manila, the Angolan diplomat hosted a reception for the Angolan community residing in the Philippines, with the participation of about a hundred nationals.

During the event, he shared data on the political and socio-economic evolution of the country and advised Angolans to focus on their academic training, in order to take part in the process of harmonious development of Angola, as well as to be guided by a conduct of Respect the laws of the host country.

The ambassador was accompanied by the ambassador, Helena Maria Correia António Rosa, the Minister Counselor, Estêvão Alberto, the Counselors Nlando Augusto Bernardo and António Gamboa Vieira Lopes, among other members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of the Philippines.

The friendly relations between Angola and the Philippines date back to the beginnings of National Independence, formally beginning on September 14, 2001, in New York, after an agreement signed by the then permanent representatives of the two countries at the United Nations, Ismael Martins and Enrique A. .Manalo, respectively.

As part of the approximation between the peoples of the two countries, around 2,000 Filipinos reside in Angola, of which 800 are registered with the Consular Services, while the Angolan community registered in this country is around 300 citizens.
