Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, held this Friday, in Bangkok, Thailand, a working meeting with her Thai counterpart, Sihasak Phuanketkeow, with a visit to strengthening political, diplomatic and cooperation relations in various areas.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the occasion was used for both parties to identify new areas subject to cooperation, as well as address regional and multilateral issues, with emphasis on Angola’s engagement in issues relating to the scope of peace and security in Africa.
In this perspective, the Secretary of State reiterated Angola’s interest in Thai direct investment, in the most varied areas, including agriculture, health and tourism, and also highlighted that the signing of the legal instruments under negotiation , namely, the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations could guarantee a new dynamic in the aforementioned relations.
At the negotiating table, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Angola and Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand also discuss the Draft Visa Suppression Agreement in Diplomatic and Service Passports and the Draft General Cooperation Agreement.
On the other hand, the Thai entity referred to the willingness of its country to sign the Memorandum on Political Consultations, as soon as possible, and called on Angola to look at Thailand as a platform for entry into the countries of the Association of Southeast Nations. Asian (ASEAN).
Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs requested Angola’s support for his country’s candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2025-2027, whose elections will be held during the 7th Session of the UN General Assembly, to be held in October of this year.
