Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the United States of America analysed, on Tuesday, the deepening of bilateral relations with emphasis on the areas of political, diplomatic, economic and commerce.

In a telephone conversation between the minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the special envoy of President Donald Trump for the Great Lakes Region and Senior Advisor of the United States for Arab Affairs and the Middle East, Massad Boulos, the two entities discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.

Minister Téte António and advisor Massad Boulos referred to the need to increase exchanges of visits at the highest level, as well as the importance of the Lobito Corridor, a strategic transport route that connects the African interior, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, to the Atlantic Ocean via the port of Lobito, in Angola.

President Donald Trump’s special envoy also addressed peace and security in eastern DRC, emphasizing the mediation efforts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.

Counselor Massad Boulos was appointed by President Donald Trump as the US special envoy for the Great Lakes region, an area of Central Africa that includes countries such as the DRC, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

One of his functions is to coordinate US efforts to promote peace and security in the region, as well as to facilitate dialogue between the countries in the area and with different international organizations.

The foreign policy of the United States of America in the Great Lakes region has been influenced by a number of factors, including geopolitical interests, regional security, human rights and natural resources.

The Great Lakes region has been marked by conflict and instability, and the US has sought over the decades to balance its strategic interests and promote peace and security.
