Africa-Press – Angola. The Governments of Angola and the United States of America admit that, despite the positive results achieved in terms of strategic cooperation, in certain sectors, cooperation between the two countries has not yet reached the desired degree of excellence.

This observation was made Thursday, in Washington, during a working meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and his American counterpart, Antony J. Blinken.

A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the two interlocutors defend “the degree of cooperation between Angola and the United States needs to be raised to the highest level”, through the adoption of an agenda that allows for regular political consultations and the attracting more American companies and technology to the Angolan market.

At the meeting, which was attended, among others, by the director of the America Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Felisberto dos Prazeres Martins, and the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola to the United States, Joaquim do Espírito Santo, the wish of the Angola to deepen and consolidate the existing cooperation ties between the two countries, based on mutual respect and benefits.

The occasion was used for the heads of diplomacy of the two countries to talk about the commitments assumed in the different areas, with particular emphasis on climate change and renewable energies, an ongoing project in Angola, and the demining plan, especially in the Okavango basin, management and protection of biodiversity and promotion of ecotourism.

Angola is pleased with the recent US investment in telecommunications and encourages economic operators to increasingly look at the country as a diversified market with strong potential in the most varied fields.

Minister Téte António also took the opportunity, on behalf of the Angolan Chief Executive, to express his deepest condolences for the physical passing of 19 children, two adults and multiple wounded, as a result of a massacre in one of the elementary schools in Texas.

It should be noted that, on Thursday, 19 May, Angola and the United States of America celebrated 29 years of political-diplomatic relations.

Political-diplomatic relations between Angola and the United States of America are based on the signing of various legal instruments with the aim of promoting and increasing political-diplomatic, economic-commercial, technical-scientific and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Minister’s Visit To The Embassy
The Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the Angolan Embassy in Washington, United States, on Thursday to see “in loco” the manner and functioning of that diplomatic mission.

The head of Angolan diplomacy, who paid a 24-hour visit to Washington, DC, at the invitation of his American counterpart, Antony J. Blinken, took a long tour of the Embassy’s premises, visiting the Political, Economic and Consular Sectors, the Military Chancellery , in addition to the areas of Culture and Press.

The Angolan diplomatic mission, located in the heart of the American capital, works with around twenty diplomats and houses two buildings with four floors each, which, among other areas, serve the consular and notary services, the Military Chancellery and the Administrative and Financial.

A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the visit was taken advantage of by the minister Téte António to meet with the local Angolan diplomatic staff, to talk about the deepening of bilateral cooperation with the United States and the agenda of the meeting with the American counterpart.
